It suits those who want a course that is relevant to life and experiences and who have an interest in people and how services are provided for people. Assessment is predominantly coursework based.
Understanding Personal Development and Relationships
In this unit you will study the stages and patterns of human growth and development, including the development of self-concept and personal relationships. You will also look at major life changes and how people manage the effects of these. Another interesting perspective is the role of relationships in personal development.
Exploring Health, Social Care and Early Years Provision
You will examine the care needs of major service user groups and the types of services which exist to meet their needs. This involves considering how care services have developed and how they are organised, the ways in which people can access services and the barriers to this. You will also study the main roles and skills of the people providing health, social care and early years services and the principles of care and the values which underpin all care work.
4 GCSEs at grade D or above preferred.

This subject would be taken as part of a general GCSE programme of study. Combines well with: Sociology, Psychology.
Your options include studying at advanced level in related Health Studies courses or you could progress to vocational courses and careers in a wide range of care and health related fields.
