AS/A2 Applied Health and Social Care (level 3)

This course is designed to enable you to:

Develop and sustain an interest in health, early years care and education, social care and issues affecting the care sector

Acquire knowledge and understanding of health, early years care and education and issues affecting the health and social care sector

Develop skills that will enable you to make an effective contribution to the care sector including skills of research, evaluation and problem solving in a work-related context

Apply the knowledge, understanding and skills

 

 

Is it for me?

The course is for those who want to work in the field of health and social care or continue to further study. The course includes the opportunity to undertake practical work.

 

Assessment is predominantly coursework based with some exams.

 

 

What’s involved?

You will develop the general skills, knowledge and understanding needed within the Health and Social Care Sector. This course provides an investigative and problem solving approach to the study of Health and Social Care.

 

AS

This focuses on the needs of individuals and the techniques and professional services aimed at meeting those needs. The course covers the following:

Rights, Responsibilities and Values

Communication in Care Settings

Health and Well-being

 

A2

This builds on AS Level and covers Service Delivery – the factors affecting it and the issues involved. The course covers the following:

Service Provision and Practitioner Roles

Understanding Human Behaviour

Drawing together aspects of these areas in a variety of contexts

 

 

Entry Requirements:

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C including English Language and Maths. A GCSE at grade C or above in Biology would be desirable.

 

Which courses go well with this?

Sociology, Psychology, Law, Biology.

 

 

Progression:

Work or further study and training in Nursing, Social Work or Primary Education.
