Applied Business (Single Award) AS/A2 (Level 3)

This course is designed to enable you to:

Apply your business knowledge and understanding in realistic business contexts, such as discovering the problems and opportunities faced by a range of businesses.

Have the ability to organise your time effectively and develop your presentational skills through producing a report or making a presentation.

 

 

Is it for me?

This course suits those who have an interest in business and enjoy applying the theory learned to real organisations in the business world.  Assessment is mainly by coursework, so students applying for this course should enjoy doing substantial projects and working to tight deadlines.

What’s involved?

AS

Investigating People at Work

Study the aims and objectives, the organisational structures, methods of recruitment, training and motivation of contrasting businesses leading up to an exam in January.

 

Investigating Business

Produce a business plan for a business idea that interests you, assessed through coursework.

 

Investigating Marketing

Research the possibility of developing a new product for a major business, assessed through coursework.

 

A2

Business Development

Using the business idea you introduced at AS, carry out a more detailed investigation to enable you to produce a business plan that fully assesses the feasibility of the idea.  Assessed through a controlled assessment.

 

Managing and Developing People

Examine the management, training, development and motivation of individuals within an organisation.

 

Organising an Event

Plan, manage and administer to completion, a one-off event, concentrating on practical knowledge, understanding and skills this needs in the business world.

 

 

Entry Requirements:

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C, with a grade C or above preferred in English Language and Maths.

Progression:

Students who have gained an award in Applied Business have gone on to study Business at degree level and a variety of business related subjects such as Marketing, Accounting and Consumer Behaviour.
