Students' award winning textile designs on display
Categories: Press Releases
New College Telford students have won first and third prizes in the prestigious annual Shrewsbury Drapers Textile Design Competition 2011. These award-winning entries are now on display at the Fusion Gallery, by the Jackfield Tile Works, in Coalbrookdale until 14 October 2011.
Fiona Lyons, Teacher of Fashion and Textiles at New College said: “The students put a lot of thought and time into preparing their pieces for the competition. The two award-winners were among a range of very high quality entries. It’s a great tribute to the quality and stunning visual impact of the work produced that it is now on display to the public.”
Fiona Lyons continued: “The theme for this year was ‘Celebration’. The project needed to include some aspect of wool and so Rebecca produced a spring themed wedding dress which was hand felted using wool.”
The Shrewsbury Drapers Company has held a Textile Design Competition for the past 16 years. It is open to all Shropshire residents aged 16 or over. As well as the recognition of the award, the winner of the competition won the £300 top prize.
The Ironbridge Gorge museums showcase a wide range of exhibits and special events celebrating innovation and design. Further details are available at www.ironbridge.org.uk
