New College students celebrate A Level success
Categories: Press Releases
Congratulations
New College Principal, Graham Clark comments: “These are excellent results in a year where competition for University places and in the jobs market is intense. There are some outstanding individual results, and many New College students appear to have secured good university places. These results reflect the skills and talents of our students and are a result of much hard work and determination, together with a lot of support from family and friends. Congratulations to everyone concerned.”
A Levels
440 candidates entered examinations in 40 different subjects. A 100% pass rate was achieved in 23 of these.
Higher grades were particularly strong this year in A Level:
Maths and Further Maths
Chemistry
English Language and Literature
Communication Studies
French
Geography and Geology
Philosophy and Ethics
Extended Project Qualification
Another particular success at New College this year is achievement in the Extended Project, with a 100% pass rate and half of students receiving top grades.
Project Co-ordinator, Penny Wysome comments “Students investigate and present their findings in a research area of their choice, providing a unique opportunity for them to focus on topics and questions that interest them and to really shine. The independent and challenging nature of the qualification is ideal preparation for University and employment, and this year’s students have really surprised themselves in what they have achieved, with some stunning original work.”
AS, BTEC and Vocational Options
Many other New College students are also celebrating very good results in AS and BTEC examinations.
The pass rate in BTEC National Diplomas and Awards at Advanced Level exceeded 97%, with an impressive 75% of learners achieving higher grades.

New College is still recruiting to its own Higher Education courses
The full time HND and part time HNC in Music Production are excellent stand-alone qualifications and can also lead on to full degree qualifications. With well- established links to specialist university courses and local employers, they are an excellent choice for those interested in sound engineering who want to study locally or to move into the area.
