NEW COLLEGE TELFORD music students to entertain shoppers

First Diploma Music students from New College Telford will be showing off their musical and singing skills to shoppers for the day at Telford Town Centre on Friday 2nd July 2010.

Shoppers will be treated to a day of live, acoustic musical arrangements from the students – ranging from pop classics to rock. The students are currently studying on the full time First Diploma Music aimed at budding musicians. The course helps them with their performance skills and stage-craft as well as developing life skills and employability through the medium of music.

This one-year vocational course (equivalent to 4 GCSEs) covers a broad spectrum of musical skills including how to read and analyse different styles of music, how to survive in the music industry, presentation and research skills, as well as the practical skills of rehearsing and performing live on stage. The college also offers courses in Music Practice, Music Performance and Music Technology at advanced levels, as well as the HND/C in Music Production.

Jo Adlington, Course Leader comments: “These young musicians join New College with very mixed previous experiences of school and a strong enthusiasm for music. The First Diploma helps to develop their confidence and self-esteem, playing at the Town Centre in front of an audience is invaluable experience for them.”
